More Moments

You are so delightful that I just want to record practically everything out of your mouth.


You were climbing all over me and driving me crazy, so I asked you to stop touching me for a little bit.  You looked at me for a minute, then held your palms and hands up so they wouldn't touch me and said "be careful not to touch mommy!"  then jumped and body slammed me.  But your hands never touched me.

A few minutes later you kept touching me and demanding things so I said (in a friendly way of course) 
"Paige, you are driving me crazy!  My head is just going to explode because you're driving me so CRAZY! Is that what you want?"  
Your reply (in your "that's funny" voice): "Nooo! Faces don't explode. VOLCANOES explode!"


We had stake conference last weekend and we sat with your cousin Heidi.  Every time made noise you looked at her and said "shh!"

From Your Mouth Lately

Quinn was fussing and you said: "There, there.  It's ok Quinn-Quinn.  We'll get you to Daddy soon."

When you don't want us to do something: "NO! That's non-gotiable." (Trying to parrot my "non-negotiable" that requires you to do whatever I'm telling you to do)

I was using the bathroom and you wanted to be there in too.  I was trying to get you to leave and said "Will you please go out to the front room so I can have some privacy?"  You replied: "No, I need to have some privacy too."
Another time (same situation): "I need to stay in here with the door short so I can have some space."

Update January 2, 2013

You crack me up all the time, and you know it too.  You often laugh and say "I crack you up all the time!"

Sometimes you put things in your mouth (pennies, pen lids, usb drives, etc) that shouldn't be there.  So when I see you chewing on something I ask "what's in your mouth?"  Sometimes it's food and other times it's something that shouldn't be there.  Sometimes...
Mommy: What's in your mouth?
Paige: A booger!

You love to watch Dora the Explorer, and have started incorporating some of the things she does in your everyday life.  For example, in one episode Dora and Boots sneak by the sleeping dragon on tiptoes being very quiet.  You know that you can't have chips for breakfast (at least until you eat something healthy), but the other morning you found a can of Pringles.  Daddy woke up to you sneaking by him on tiptoes whispering "Shh... tiptoe, tiptoe."

Sometimes you try to get away with doing things you know you shouldn't by telling me to leave so you can do them.  For example, you wanted to drop a bunch of toilet paper into the toilet.  I told you not to do it.  You looked at me.  Then at the toilet.  Then back to me.  Then you said "you leave now!"

You're usually very sweet with your new sister, Quinn.  When she's crying you get her binky, hold her hand, or say soothing things (mimicking the cadence of my voice) like:
"There, there Quinn. Don't cry. You'll be happy soon."
"Don't worry.  We'll get you home soon."
"It's ok, Quinn. It's just a bath."

Other times you try to play with Quinn even though she doesn't quite know how yet.  For example, this morning Quinn was sitting in her bouncer.  Giggling, you sneaked up on her, dumped an armful of laundry on her face and yelled "Quinn is hiding!"  When I pulled the clothes off of Quinn's face she was grinning to... which only made you want to do it more.  (It took me a few times to convince you that we don't throw laundry on Quinn's face)

The other day we went to the National Museum of Natural History, or as you call it, the Bug Museum.  We looked at the bugs there (which you still LOVE) and then looked at some other things.  By the tail of the Giant Elephant in the museum's rotunda there is a little display on dung beetles that live in elephant poop. You thought that was SO funny.  For the days since you keep saying (at random times) "dung beetles live in ELEPHANT POOP!" and you laugh and laugh and laugh.

You are really interested in outer space.  You love the Mickey/Dora episodes where they go to space and lately have taken to pretending to blast off in a rocket.  You sit down on the floor, and put on your "helmet" and "seat belt" (both imaginary).  Then you run around the room and put seat belts and helmets on everyone there, saying "you need your helmet and seat belt so you'll be safe."  Then you do a count down: "10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1.. blast off!!"

I Got Naked!

Last night I went in to check on you before I went to bed and found you cuddled under your blanket, completely naked and completely soaking wet (we haven't even attempted night time potty training yet).  At some point before going to sleep you took off all your clothes and your diaper, climbed into bed and went to sleep.

Daddy and I got you cleaned up and put new bedding on the bed.  Then as I tried to get new pajamas on you, you started crying and screaming.  I realized that you didn't want to wear any clothes.  So we put you back in bed wearing just a diaper.

This morning you came into my room and woke me up with a big grin and said announced "I got naked!"

Then at nap time today, we went through the routine of getting you ready to sleep.  When it was almost time to climb into bed, you said very matter-of-factually "I'm going to take off my clothes now" and proceeded to strip down to your diapers and socks.

Apparently you've decided that sleeping naked is the way to go.

Mommy: Yes, ma'am.
Paige: No, I'm NOT a ma'am.  I'm a PAIGE.


Were we comparing our belly buttons, and you pointed to my tummy and said:
"Baby Quinn is in Mommy's tummy.  And Quinn's birthday is at November."


Mommy: Tomorrow we're going to drive a long time in the car and go to New York.
Paige: *thinks for a minute* We're going to Noah's Ark?
Mommy: No, to New York.
Paige: And it's not an ark?
Mommy: Nope, it's a city.
Paige: *confused* Oh.
Later in the day...
Mommy: Do you remember where we're going tomorrow?
Paige: We're going to New York, but it's not an ark.

Singing

In the past few days you've started singing what you're doing and it's HILARIOUS.  You just start narrating, through song, what's going on.  My two favorites:

We were driving home from New York and you drank a cup of yogurt juice.  After that was done I gave you a cup of water.  You started singing and as I listened to the words I heard:  "Mommy gave me water and not yogurt juice!"

This morning you found a box of band-aids and started singing: "I'm shaking the box of Charlie Brown band-aids"

Just totally ordinary descriptions of what's going on, but you sing them.  It's really funny.

Summertime

You sure are loving summer.  Daddy has been gone a lot because he's studying for the bar.  We've missed him a lot, but we've tried to keep busy.  One of your favorite things to do is go to a splash park that's about 20 minutes away from us.  You love to splash in the water and play at the water tables.  You don't really like some of the bigger sprays, but you have a ton of fun there.

Right by the spray park there's a big playground that you like to play on.  



You also LOVE to go swimming.  You beg and beg to go swimming almost every day.  We go to the pool a lot.  There's a big pool and a little pool and you like playing in them both (in fact you insist on swimming in both of them each time we're there).  You didn't really like the big pool at first, but you've been really brave and gotten used to it.  The last time we were there you even decided you wanted to try going under water.  You held your nose while I dunked you, and you LOVED it.  After that you insisted on going under again and again and again.
